Fun fact about window grilles
Back in the day, window glass couldn’t be manufactured and installed in a single large sheet. It was too fragile to move without breaking. In the Colonial days, windows were produced in smaller glass panes so that they could be packaged and couriered by a horse. During installation, separate glass panes were held into place with wood strips – the window grille look we know today as Colonial windows.
